Myers Briggs Type Indicator test

Home >> Training >> Additional Supervisory Classes >> Myers-Briggs Type Indicator

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) has proven to be extremely effective when applied to organizational settings. After more than 50 years of research and development, the MBTI is the most widely used instrument for understanding normal personality differences. The MBTI will help individuals identify their strengths, unique gifts, motivations and potential areas of growth. It also helps people to better understand and appreciate differences in others, thus enhancing cooperation and productivity in organizations.

The MBTI functions as a tool that helps people in organizations to:

  • Understand themselves and their behaviors
  • Appreciate others so as to make constructive use of individual differences
  • See that approaching and solving problems in different ways can be healthy and productive for an organization

Through the use of the MBTI, an organization can experience:

  • Improved communications
  • Better team effectiveness
  • Greater employee satisfaction
  • Increased productivity
  • Reduction of workplace conflict

MBTI Workshops include the following:

Introduction to MBTI
Participants complete the MBTI instrument by answering a 93-item questionnaire that scientifically gathers information about the person’s preferences for gathering information, communicating and making decisions. The questionnaires are scored, and a general MBTI profile and a workplace MBTI profile are created for each participant. From the individual scores, a group personality profile is developed to evaluate and address the challenges and opportunities of the group. The workshop will provide an introduction to the basics of Myers-Briggs type theory as it relates to increasing self understanding, enhancing group interactions, and improving individual and group effectiveness in an organization.

Teambuilding Using MBTI
There are many different kinds of teams--leader-directed, total quality, continuous improvement, cross-functional and informal. Regardless of the nature of the team, understanding and appreciating similarities and differences in the personalities of team members can help teams function more effectively. This workshop will build on the information from the introductory workshop and provide an opportunity to explore and understand the practical application of Myers Briggs type to the team environment. Each participant will receive a MBTI team report utilizing MBTI type results to improve the effectiveness of the team by 1) identifying the team's strengths and weaknesses, 2) maximizing the natural advantages that result from similarities and differences of team members, and 3) identifying an action plan with specific behaviors to help improve the effectiveness of the team.
